When we think of human sex trafficking, most of our first thoughts go to those young girls overseas who are being kidnapped and taken from their love ones. Or we think of “prostitutes” as troubled youth who ran away from home. This article and video breaks both of those mindsets: New Jersey Teen spent 36 hours in the world of Sex Trafficking.
Meet our clinical director and owner, Karen Cowan. She was raised in Detroit but moved to Asheville when she was 16 years old. Although she moved around quite a bit, she never really found a place that felt like home like Asheville did. She opened the foster care agency in 2004, and named it after her beautiful daughter Brandi, in 2010. She is a mother to her 7 year old grandson Joseph and an awesome boss. Let’s meet her!
We would love for you to meet Phyllis Green, talk about a lady filled with knowledge and stories about life. She is well traveled and lived in several places like Florida, Guam Island, and Asheville. She has been fostering for 20 years and lives by the motto, Live and Let Live.

We were shooting a video for our agency with a young lady who outlived and successfully survived the system , but decided to take a time out and have a photo shoot while the cameras were still rolling!
We would like to introduce you to one of our foster parents, Major and Theresa Waddell. What an awesome couple! They are full of so much wisdom and the love they have for Christ just radiates throughout them. They have been married for 40 years; have 3 sons and 4 grandchildren ranging from ages 5-12. Let’s meet them!

Meet our foster care specialist LaRisha Littlejohn. She is spunky, full of life, and loves to help youth. She has been with BNFEC for a year and a half. The passion to give back to the community and the passion she has for youth, lead her to where she is today. She comes from a family of 4 kids, and has a 5 year old daughter. She enjoys writing and collecting candles and picture frames. She can even crochet! Let’s meet her!
